A central highlight across six pages: the successful partnership with deZem and the Europe-wide rollout of smart energy management for DOUGLAS stores in 22 countries.

From estimation to precise energy monitoring

Under the title „From Monitoring to Change,“ the magazine describes how the DOUGLAS Group made the leap from vague estimations to precise electricity data collection. Through collaboration with deZem, DOUGLAS now has detailed consumption data for lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning available every 15 minutes. For Lars Bangemann of the DOUGLAS Group, it is clear: only through this transparency does ESG work across the entire store network of DOUGLAS and NOCIBÉ become truly tangible.

„We are proud to be one of the few retailers of our size that rely on real data instead of estimates – making our ESG work tangible and measurable", so Lars Bangemann, Senior Manager Construction Maintenance & Repair at the DOUGLAS Group.

Scaling at record speed: The Harvy2 as an enabler

The challenge with the DOUGLAS Group's „Smart Meter Project“ was to equip around 1,970 stores in 22 countries without any business interruptions. The deZem Harvy2 current sensor proved to be a crucial factor, alongside an app specifically programmed for the installation teams:

  • Efficiency The simple installation enabled rollouts to up to six stores per team – every single day.
  • Transparency Immediately after installation, optimisation potential becomes apparent, such as excessive energy consumption by ventilation systems during the night-time hours.
  • Future-proof: The data is already being incorporated into the planning of future stores to identify savings even before construction begins.

From data to action: The SENSE-CHECK-ACT Cycle

The project is far more than a technical installation. The DOUGLAS Group is already actively using the data to be able to reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2030 %. Dr. Georg Riegel (CEO, deZem GmbH) explains the three-stage optimisation process in the ESG magazine:

  • SENSE Continuous recording of measurement data.
  • CHECK: Ongoing analysis to identify potential savings.
  • ACT Targeted measures, such as the optimisation of ventilation systems, which were identified as the biggest energy lever.

„With deZem, we made the right choice.“

The DOUGLAS Group's conclusion is clear: „Our goal was a uniform, end-to-end solution with one partner to ensure transparency and comparability – and with deZem, we made the right choice.“, so Lars Bangemann, Senior Manager Construction Maintenance & Repair at the DOUGLAS Group.

About deZem

Since 2003, deZem has been developing and supplying hardware and software to network and analyse sensor data from many heterogeneous sources - worldwide with projects in Europe, America and Asia. Originally started in the field of energy controlling, we have expanded our range of products and services over the years into a comprehensive system for IoT data management, from industrial analytics to plant and process monitoring to technical building management. Because the basic idea is the same: to create a scalable platform for collecting and analysing IoT data.
