Smart City IoT with deZem
With our Smart City solutions, we help cities and municipalities to digitally record their data from various sources, close data gaps and analyse their consumption centrally. The aim is to identify potential savings, thereby increasing efficiency, reducing costs and saving resources. In addition, residents can be better integrated through smart data visualisations, which leads to more active citizen participation and greater acceptance of optimisation measures.
Legal requirements binding from 2024!
The ever-increasing legal requirements provide a further argument as to why digitalisation has become indispensable for cities and municipal stakeholders. In addition to the Building Energy Act (GEG), since 2024 the Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) has also obliged public bodies to implement and provide evidence of increasing energy savings every year - making the digital recording of measurement data a basic requirement for every smart city and smart region.
LoRaWAN - Ideal for Smart City
The Internet of Things (IoT) offers low-threshold entry options for the comprehensive development of a (measurement data) infrastructure. With the help of LoRaWAN wireless technology, smaller communities, cities or extensive regions can be quickly and cost-effectively equipped with digital measurement technology. The extensive range of sensors enables a variety of smart city applications and constant, manufacturer-independent expandability.

Modular infrastructure for smart cities
For data management, we offer the high-performance deZem data platform - a secure and fast system that stores all data and makes it readily available for analysis in our deZem DataSuite (IoT analytics software). Data from various sources or existing systems can typically be integrated with ease via multiple interfaces.
deZem solutions for the smart city
LoRaWAN starter kit
Starter set for testing or setting up LoRaWAN within a municipality or city. Contains one LoRaWAN gateway and three sensors.
deZem DataSuite
Software for visualising and analysing all data. Web-based, accessible via desktop or mobile. The DataSuite consists of individually bookable modules.
deZem Harvy2
Battery-free LoRaWAN current sensor for detecting electrical currents. Ideal for fast and cost-effective retrofitting of buildings, charging stations, local network transformers, systems or machines.
Smart City services
From the initial consultation to the optimisation of long-standing systems, we support municipalities on their way to becoming smart cities.
Interface implementation
To connect our system to other smart city platforms (e.g. for in-depth energy management)
Smart City in practice
Smart City applications from deZem
We have been implementing IoT applications in a wide range of areas for our customers since 2003:
- Smart Grid: Monitoring of transformer stations
- Smart Building: Energy management, monitoring of air quality, room temperature and humidity; leakage detection; heating measurement and control, water consumption
- Smart Parking
- Monitoring of e-car charging stations
- Predictive maintenance: Predictive maintenance
- Condition monitoring: Condition monitoring of ventilation systems, pumps, lifting systems, etc.
- Smart Lighting
- Smart Agriculture
- Smart Water Monitoring: e.g. with flood sensors and rain measurement
- Smart Traffic:Traffic flow measurement
Application example City of Cottbus
- 800 meters in 57 building complexes
- Capture: Electricity, heat and water consumption, temperatures, humidity and CO2 values
- Integration of stock counters: via LoRaWAN / M-Bus / BACnet
- Hardware: iPCX, IoT devices
- Transmission path: LoRaWAN, technical network, mobile radio
Smart building: heating optimisation saves school €4400
This heatmap visualises the optimisation potential of a school heating system. The large peak loads and sharp load changes are clearly visible as red and orange areas. Following the implementation of an improved heating control system on 20th February, these irregularities were successfully corrected. The result is a more energy-efficient operation that not only protects the heating system but also reduces costly peak loads. This led to an annual basic fee saving of €4,400 - all without any investment in new equipment. This was made possible by continuous digital data collection, detailed analysis with deZemVis, and the resulting sensible adjustments to the control system.

Smart building: reduce water consumption, detect leaks
Using the heatmap, the caretaker of a city school identifies implausibly high water consumption or leaks. Running toilet flushes or taps left running are detected early, allowing prompt repairs that save both costs and valuable resources.
Smart Building: Ventilation system optimisation through energy data acquisition
The deZem Smart City solutions are complemented by sensors such as our Harvy2 LoRaWAN current sensor, which is ideal for comprehensive energy data collection thanks to its particularly simple installation. This creates the basis for data-supported optimisation of the ventilation systems in your buildings.
What our customers say:

Smart Region Schwalm-Eder-WestWith deZem DataSuite, we have found an IoT software that is unrivalled in terms of functionality. An excellent tool for advancing the digitalisation of our region and identifying potential savings

Smart City CottbusThe deZem analysis software provides us with near real-time insight into our buildings.
As a smart city, the city of Cottbus is focussing on a digital future. Even before digital energy monitoring becomes a legal requirement, we have already equipped 57 building complexes with M-Bus data loggers or LoRaWAN gateways together with deZem. These are used to monitor electricity, heat and water consumption, temperatures, humidity and CO2 levels in schools, daycare centres and administrative buildings. Knowing what consumption occurs when and what conditions exist in our buildings allows us to recognise operating errors and save energy and therefore greenhouse gases and costs. The uncomplicated LoRaWAN wireless technology and deZem's analysis software give us near real-time insight into our buildings.
