The Base Load Check: Your Lever for Maximum Energy Efficiency

Do you know how much energy your buildings consume while everyone is asleep? The base load is one of the biggest levers for your energy efficiency – a slumbering giant whose activation immediately and noticeably reduces your energy costs without affecting ongoing operations.

A classic real-world example: A ventilation system runs at full load at night, on weekends, or regardless of air quality. The server room operates without load management, or a heating system was incorrectly adjusted during the last maintenance. With our deZem Energy management software, we make this invisible waste visible instantly:

  • Base load analysis: Check settings intuitively via the deZemVis module.
  • Benchmarking: Compare the consumption curves of similar locations and identify deviations immediately.
  • Alert function: Set a threshold with deZemAd, upon exceeding which your building or energy management team will be notified by email.

A typical base load example

A direct comparison of two virtually identical buildings reveals impressive optimisation potential. While in Building A (turquoise curve) the night-time base load for climate control, ventilation, and lighting is reduced to a minimum (approx. 0.75 kW), the curve for Building B (pink curve) shows a significantly higher energy consumption of approx. 6 kW than necessary. Neither building is actively operated at night – the consumption occurs behind closed doors and without any added value.

Conclusion

Even more precise control of air conditioning, ventilation and lighting significantly reduces costs and improves energy efficiency without disrupting day-to-day operations. Through this technical optimisation alone, energy savings of around 88 % in the night-time base load are within reach. And this can be achieved without major investment costs such as the installation of a new ventilation system, heating systems or a solar installation.

Base load analysis with the Harvy2 current sensor

The perfect addition to our DataSuite energy management software is our agile Harvy2 LoRaWAN current sensor. It can be installed in a very short time and provides you with reliable measurement data for the base load analysis of your buildings.

About deZem

Since 2003, deZem has been developing and supplying hardware and software to network and analyse sensor data from many heterogeneous sources - worldwide with projects in Europe, America and Asia. Originally started in the field of energy controlling, we have expanded our range of products and services over the years into a comprehensive system for IoT data management, from industrial analytics to plant and process monitoring to technical building management. Because the basic idea is the same: to create a scalable platform for collecting and analysing IoT data.
